Stay healthy, wash your hands!

Winter weather is on its way, and along with the cold weather comes the cold and flu season. You can help keep yourself healthy with the simple habit of washing your hands. You don’t need to use antibacterial soap, in fact, the Centers for Disease Control has discovered that using regular soap is just as effective as antibacterial soap.

The CDC recommends that we wash our hands under running water, use soap and actively wash your hands for 20 seconds. How long is 20 seconds? You don’t need a timer—sing the Happy Birthday song twice! The CDC says there are 5 steps to effectively washing your hands; Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, and Dry. Use soap and rub your hands together vigorously. Soap is a surfactant: it helps lift the dirt from your skin, and rubbing your hands together creates friction which helps remove dirt and germs. Rinse well, dry and you’re done!

Wash your hands often, especially after coming into contact with anything dirty or germy and before touching your food.
